Dwell
Website time tracker & focus mode for Chrome
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 22 September 2026
What the extension keeps
To show you where your time goes, Dwell saves the following, only on your device:
- Websites you use and time spent on each: the site's domain name
(for example
youtube.com) with the total time per day and per hour. Full page addresses, titles and page content are not saved. - Click counts: how many times you click on each website. Not what you click, where on the page, or anything you type.
- Files opened from your computer: the file name (for example
My Notes.txt) and time spent on it. Not its contents or folder. - Each site's main address (for example
https://www.youtube.com), used to show the right icon from Chrome's own icon cache. - Your settings: daily limits, site categories (Productive or Distracting), blocked and ignored sites, focus sessions, how long to keep history, the idle timeout and your theme choice.
Where it's stored
Everything is stored in your browser's local storage for this extension, on your computer. Dwell makes no network requests: nothing is sent to the developer or to anyone else. It isn't synced to other devices.
What Dwell never does
- Read, collect or change the content of the pages you visit
- Record keystrokes, form entries, passwords or messages
- Use analytics, advertising, tracking or third-party services
- Sell, share or transfer your data, or use it for anything other than showing you your own stats
How long it's kept
Browsing history (time, hours and clicks) is kept for the number of days you choose in Settings: 7, 14 (the default) or 30. Older days are deleted automatically. Your settings are kept until you change them or remove the extension.
Your control
- Clear a day or a week of history from the popup.
- Ignore a site in Settings. It's never tracked again, and everything already recorded for it is deleted.
- Export all your data as CSV or JSON from Settings. The file is saved directly to your computer.
- Uninstall the extension to delete all of its data.
